Unique among the world's seven species of pelicans, the Brown Pelican is found along the ocean shores and not on inland lakes. It is the only dark pelican, and also the only one that plunges from the air into the water to catch its food.
I remember how stunning these birds looked in groups (flocks?) of 5 or 6 riding the air currents along (and barely a few yards above) the shores. Kind of prehistorically majestic.
Welcome to my photo-blog of San Diego and surrounding areas. I am a native San Diegan, married to a Frenchman whom I met on vacation in Paris. San Diego is a large coastal city located in Southern California, the southwestern corner of the continental United States.

What a fabulous photograph of a fabulous bird. I remember loving pelicans when i lived in Queensland. This one is a beauty.
Grat shot. How close were you? I would think you zoomed in order to not scare them off. Wonderful shot.
Aw, jeez, that's just gorgeous. I have taken 22 tons of brown pelican shots but nothing as nice as this!
Super shot!

Great pelican picture. We have them here in Corpus Christi, too, and we love them.
