If I understand my blog from yesterday correctly, this lovely lad is a turtle. The above pose reminds me of some prehistoric creature. I could watch them all day long in their habitat at The San Diego Zoo.
I took some similar shots (not as good) of less long necked turtles recently at the Jardin des Plantes in Paris. Amazing, they can live at least as long as humans... but another type of life.
I once had quite an interest in turtles. I enjoyed these pix! I also used to enjoy SD Zoo. I'll have to make it down from the rainy north one of these days!
What a long neck. I did not know turtles had such long necks. Actually I had never seen a turtle from under (if that makes sense). Jacob is funny. Have you read "Esio Trot" by Roald DahlN
Lovely capture. I like his little nose above the water line. It seems incongruous somehow that the little one is the turtle and the larger one is the tortoise.
Welcome to my photo-blog of San Diego and surrounding areas. I am a native San Diegan, married to a Frenchman whom I met on vacation in Paris. San Diego is a large coastal city located in Southern California, the southwestern corner of the continental United States.

He is a beauty and such a long neck. If I recall right there is a seal at the zoo that get his teeth brushed.
Dear Nancy!

Fabulous pictures!
Léia :-)
His neck is so long it almost looks like he is part snake! Beautiful!

Very nice shot, Nancy. But shouldn't long-necked turtles live on Long Island?
I wonder if this is a normal-necked turtle who has the capacity to stretch his neck away out there...do all turtles have this capacity?
When I run into a turtle they usually pull their necks in until you think they have no neck at all.
Do male and female turtles neck?
Sorry. I'll go away now.
